Hey, I’m Devin (they/she), the human behind Hatch.

I’m a multi-disciplinary artist, entrepreneur, and educator with a penchant for black clothes and prismatic creations.

Throughout my career, my creative expression has taken many forms. From graphic design and illustration, to gallery work and education, I never wanted to limit myself as an artist. I see the interconnectedness of all modes of art making and embrace how different techniques, technologies, and approaches can come together in new, and even unexpected, ways.

So, in 2016, I started Hatch Creative Services — a freelance art studio where creativity flows like electricity and ideas come to life!

Hatch was built on the pillars of empowering others, connecting to community, and offering all of my interests and skills as an artist in once place. Over the years, my focus with Hatch has naturally evolved as I continue to grow and change; each new chapter revealing a deeper sense of authenticity and ways to make a positive impact.

Teaching has been a natural extension of my artistic work, and for the past 15 years, I have also been a professor at Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids, MI. Between Hatch and Kendall, I have taught a huge array of topics including drawing of alllll kinds, digital media, character design and concept art, graphic design and software, painting (big and small), marketing, social media, branding, entrepreneurship… and the list goes on.

My unique professional blend as small business owner, art professor, and community focused artist has led to so many opportunities including serving as the faculty lead for independent student projects, creating a summer internship program, workshops and lectures, various roles in ArtPrize, and years of painting massive public art murals.

But my proudest accomplishment by far, is being a parent to my two very own hatchlings, A and D. We have a magical little home in Holland, MI that we share with three cats, a snake, and a snail.

Lastly… my first very first book, A Personal Guide to Surviving This Life on Earth, will be coming out later this year. More on that soon!

lead with love.
