Color Story: Enchanted
As we stay inside from the frigid and blustery weather of February, read about this soothing and calming hue…say hello to Enchanted.
This month’s color story focuses on a light, airy and magical purple tint. Enchanted means ‘to be placed under a spell’ and for Devin and I, that’s just what this color did. It’s light and whimsical mood takes you to another place. This pale purple hue took me to a whimsical forest with fairies and fluffy clouds to match. It took me to a candy store with plenty of complimenting pastel candies. It reminds me of the barbie movies I watched as a kid, it’s magical pale violet capturing the whimsy of the stories she starred in.
Purple is a powerful color, it often represents extravagance, wisdom and creativity. It can also represent mystery, peace and magic. If you were to create this color with paint, you’d combine a cool blue hue like ultramarine with permanent rose. Add lots of water (for watercolor) or white paint for gouache/oil paint and voila, a perfectly pale and cool light purple. Create what you wish with this color, it pairs well with fluffy skies and cotton candy, or whatever your creativity leads you to.
Barbie Nutcracker, Barbie Rapunzel, Barbie Swan Lake and Barbie and the Magic Pegasus all used tinted purple and pink hues to create magic and whimsy in each animated masterpiece.
ENCHANTED MOOD
Enchanted pairs well with similar pale colors, they add interest but put this purple in the spotlight. This color creates a soothing and relaxing effect to any color scheme it encounters. It can remind you of the deep of winter, with all the shadows in the snow reflecting a light blue and purple. Alternatively it can remind you of the warm spring time too, blooming flowers and warm sunshine.

CREAMSICLE MAGIC
Who doesn’t love pastels? They’re easy on the eye and remind us of cotton candy and all things childhood. You can’t go wrong when matching this pale purple with other pastels, it’s immediately soft and friendly to the eyes.

CLOUD WHIMSY
Enchanted can be placed with many colors and shine, but nothing works as beautifully as a deeply monochromatic pairing. It’s almost magical in the ways it creates contrast against the pale lilac of Enchanted. It reminds you of deep purple clouds in pale purple skies and moody teenage tumblr walls.

ECLECTIC WISTERIA
This palette exudes spring, which is my (Bre’s) favorite season. I love the way cool spring air feels and smells, how it’s a reminder that everything changes and the world is in a constant cycle. Purple and green remind me of the lilac tree outside my grandma’s window and how the warm spring air would blow the sweet fragrance through the open windows. It’s warm and energetic and altogether nostalgic.
