Color Story: Strawberry Milk

If you’re looking for the ultimate sweetness factor, then you’ve found it with this month’s adorable rosy shade: Strawberry Milk.

By its very essence, pink is a warm, feel-good color. Pink is the color of sweetness — both in the literal sense and in the tender moments of our lives. Pink is the color of kitten noses, cotton candy, and summer sunsets. And this month, we are soaking it all up with the perfect May color, Strawberry Milk.

Pink is classically associated with femininity and love. Imagine lacy valentines, baby blankets, and fresh rose petals and you have pink, pink pink. And while Strawberry Milk could surely be found in any Rococo piece of 18th century art, it is just as well suited for the modern era. This hue is perfect for cosmetic advertising, editorial images, and playful illustrations.

We chose the name, Strawberry Milk, to further that feeling of sweetness. I remember the first time I had a glass of strawberry milk at a sleepover. We made it with a bottle of Hershey’s strawberry syrup and whole milk, and you better believe how pleasantly surprised I was when that delightful flavor hit my lips! Pink has always been a favorite color of mine, so when it came to selecting the exact hue for the blog, that memory produced a whole Pinterest board of sugary goodness.

Time for an art lesson

Pink is a tint of red which means it is a color made by adding white. Strawberry Milk is a warm pink, leaning towards yellow on the color wheel. To create this lovely little hue, simply mix a warm red (Cadmium or Scarlet would work) and add white. And if you’re feeling playful, add the smallest touch of a cool lemon yellow to get that almost coral, sun-kissed look.

We’re loving this pastel vibe. Four dreamy tints come together to make your unicorn dreams come true! In all seriousness, pastels are totally in right now and with the inclusion of a soft, sandy tan, this palette can be both cute and delicately sophisticated.
